I will be teaching a course called Poetic Technique in Valencia, Spain during the six-week summer session (June-August 2009). This is an introductory class that will include craft lectures, writing workshops, and outings in Valencia to markets, the central bullring, cafes, sandwich shops, and other sites. I will give students writing exercises based on these excursions.
I will also be teaching a Poetry Workshop, a writing workshop with a craft element centered around Spanish-language poets in translation, including Lorca, Neruda, Paz and Bolano. There will also be a translation project for those students fluent in Spanish.
David Kirby will be teaching a travel writing course at the same time as well as a literature class centered around American writers in Spain.
Both classes are offered through Florida State University’s International Programs. The FSU Study Center is located in a beautiful new building in the center of Valencia. Adults and students from other universities are welcome to enroll.
